my spleen at the Grand Canyon

Took a ride up to the Grand Canyon today.

Did I just say that? "Took a ride"? Like, I can just head up there for a day trip?

This place is incredible. I love being in Arizona.

It only took about 90 minutes to get there (the south rim is much closer than the north rim, what we did last weekend). Rain threatened but never followed through other than a nasty downpour on the ride up.

Rainclouds overhead.

Dan, sitting on a cliff, his favorite hobby.

The Colorado River glimmers at the beginning sunset.

A cinder cone standing out among the rock formations.

"If there is light in the soul, there will be beauty in the person. If there is beauty in the person, there will be harmony in the house. If there is harmony in the house, there will be order in the nation. If there is order in the nation, there will be peace in the world."

"Each of us is here for a brief sojourn; for what purpose he knows not, though he senses it. But without deeper reflection one knows from daily life that one exists for other people." --Albert Einstein
Tomorrow we head to Sedona. I hear it's the vortex capital of the world or something, so if I get any pictures of unicorns or aliens or anything, you'll see it here first, on Blog Spleeness.

Wow - I especially love the backlit one, with the different shades of gray.

Oooh, I love those! I haven't been to the GC in 20 years, it hasn't changed a bit ;)

i am itching to get back to that area. my grandparents live in munds park, just south of flagstaff and i miss the air, the color, the dry heat! (its wonderful for us gals with wavy hair..no frizz!) and the canyons. there are so many.

Hey, you were at the GC on the same day as me! I photographed the same cloud - I'd recognise it anywhere. Great blog - I'm new to Flag too, so I was kind of getting to know the place vicariously, by reading this. Nice town, isn't it?

(I see you're still married, though, so my "make it look like food poisoning" trick didn't work out... ;-)

I know I'm a little late with this, but those are super amazing pictures! Sometimes I wish I could trade the NYC for those views...
